Q&A with Amanda
Why you want to work with athletes?
I participated in sports while growing up and really enjoy being part of a team. I love being able to share my knowledge, passion and experiences with like-minded people. I know that athletes invest a lot into their bodies and it’s a great feeling to know I’m helping them achieve greater things.
What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
When I get feedback from clients about how my massage/stretch allowed them to do or feel something they haven’t been able to do/ feel. When I get that deep felt appreciation and I know I’m making a difference in their life and/or sport.
Why did you become a SportStretch® Instructor?
When I learn something, I know I truly understand it if I can explain it or show it to someone else. I became an instructor because I have been a life-long learner. Growing up on a farm, there was never a day when I didn’t learn something. This also taught me patience. When I figure something out, I want others to know the answers as well so they can be as informed and equipped as possible to make the best decisions, or have the best experiences. I love sharing knowledge and experiences with others.
FAQ About Rawson Recovery
Assisted stretching is a type of passive stretching. It is where a force outside of yourself is moving your body. The therapist will move the client’s limbs and body into different stretches and the client does not help the therapist. The client’s goals are to hold zero tension in the body, focus on big breaths, and communicate with the therapist about what they’re feeling. The nervous system responds differently when a force outside of yourself is providing the stretch and therefore we are able to get a little deeper into each stretch than you’d be able to get yourself.
Goals and intentions are a big part of Rawson Recovery. What are your goals and intentions?
Do you want to get a really good stretch after a workout or competition? Do you want to feel less sore? Do you want to move more fluidly or have a better range of motion? In most cases we will use them together as they complement each other beautifully.
Our body is made to move smoothly in so many ways, like a greased cogwheel.
As time goes on, our wheels may become restricted and less efficient. We experience pain, lose range of motion, and some movements become rigid.
Getting massage and stretching regularly is not only good for maintenance like "re-greasing" your cogwheel, but also for helping to remove restrictions and remind the body that it's capable of big, smooth, powerful movements, without pain.
"Regular maintenance" for some is as often as 1-2 times per week, and for others, it's once every 4-6 weeks.
Plantar fasciitis can be a complex issue. The source of the problem could be different for everyone. Massage can help reduce the pain and symptoms associated with plantar fasciitis. However, you should always consult your doctor for the best course of action.
If you are not feeling well, it is always best to postpone your massage. Especially if you have more severe symptoms such as fever, aches, chills, or something contagious.
No two massages are alike. Every massage therapist does massage differently and has a different philosophy. At Rawson Recovery our belief is that anything extremely painful is going to work against the nervous system, which is then working against our goals. There can be some discomfort with massage, but we like to find the sweet spot where we are working WITH the nervous system and still being effective, without causing pain.
If you are only getting a stretch, you will wear athletic (stretchy) clothing to your appointment and stay dressed during the session.
If you are getting a massage or a combination of massage + stretch, you will be undressed on the massage table and covered with a sheet and blanket. All draping will remain professional during the appointment, even during the stretches.
Yes, we do accept HSA and FSA. You may want to talk to your doctor about getting a script for massage before utilizing these funds.
Rawson Recovery does not take insurance. Some insurance providers will cover the cost of a massage with a prescription from your doctor. We have had some clients submit receipts to their insurance company, which applied the amount toward their deductible. It is always best to visit with your doctor and insurance company about this.
Rawson Recovery works mainly off referrals and we are blessed to be busy. We may offer gift certificates to existing clients at times. However, we prefer you book an actual appointment for the recipient vs. selling you a gift certificate.
